Guatemala: Melozone biarcuata - Prevost’s Ground Sparrow
This species is distributed throughout the pacific slopes from Mexico to Honduras in Central America. This painting was based on a skin of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala museum, and represents a typical scene in Guatemala. The butterfly is a member of the family Papilionidae.

Panthera onca - Jaguar
This is one of the biggest and powerful cats of the world, and the biggest in the American continent, reaching 300 pounds of weight. It can be found from Mexico through the north of Argentine, inhabiting forests from sea level to 2000m. His favorites preys include peccaries, turtles, alligators, deer, among others. Humans are its main natural enemy, whom persecuted them as hunting trophies or due ignorance, with the false believe that this is an aggressive animal for humans or cattle.
This illustration feature the actual size of the smallest subspecies which can be found in Central America. It was made from the sketch of a cranium and complemented with observation of captive specimens. The vegetation depicts the Petén forests in Guatemala. The butterfly belongs to the genus Caligo, one of the biggest butterflies in the continent collected in Petén.
